Urbanisation is predicted to continue at a fast rate in regions that will have large rural populations.
What is a megacity?
A megacity is a city which has a population of over 10 million people.
How has the number and location of megacities changed over time? Where are they and where
has the greatest growth occurred?
The most rapid growth of megacities will be in developing and emerging continents. Asia has the most megacities.
What is a primate city (world city) – consider social, economic, political, cultural factors as well as
facts about their population size?
A world city is a city that trade and invest globally. A primate city is a city that has a bigger importance and influence than their size suggests. An example of a primate city would be London or New York they are worlds biggest financial centres meaning half the worlds money (several trillion US dollars) come through London each year.
