Topic 3 Background Flashcards
1
Q
Face perception
A
Frantic 66: Babies show no preference for an image of a human face over a scrambled face when newborn, but did at 3 months.
As the cerebral cortex develops, faces can be perceived as a whole, at 1 month only edges & contours are looked at
2
Q
Depth Perception
A
This has evolved for our survival to avoid drops. Our brains interpret depth cues; we know objects are constant (unchanging) & only appear changed due to angles & distance.
3
Q
Bower 71
A
8-17 day old babies had 1 large & 1 small cube moved towards them. They appeared the same size but babies would raise their arms in defence to the closer object= depth perception is innate.
