Topic 3 Flashcards
What is neuron cells have?
Dendrites, cell bodies, axons, axon-terminals, (sometimes) myelin sheath
What does the axon do?
-extension of cytoplasm
-impulses travel down it
-transmit info to effector organ or neuron
What is myelin?
White fatty materials, acts as insulator
In PNS formed by Schwann cells
In CNS formed by **
Grey Vs. White matter
Grey matter: non-myelinated areas
White matter: myelinated areas
Def: Ganglia
Cluster of neuron cells
3 types of neurons and functions
-Sensory(afferent in CNS AND PNS): Relays info received by sensory receptors to CNS
-Interneurons(association in CNS): link between both.
-Motor(efferent in CNS AND PNS): Nervous system to effector (produces physiological response like muscle contraction)
Reflex arc
Stimulus—>sensory neuron—>interneurons—>motor neurons—>effector
All happens in spinal cord except first and last!
