-increase work productivty-> more revenue for hospital
how do we prepare the surgical theater
-disinfect all surfaces
-top up consumabes ( gauze, alcohol, scalpel blades)
-ensure surgical packs are available for use
-preheat surgical table (less heat loss from patients body)
-check all machines and equiptment
What happens if preparation of
Surgical Theatre is not done properly?
Lack of/improper disinfection protocols contamination of surgical surfaces and/or
surgical site during surgical procedure infection of surgical site prolonged healing
* Equipment/machines not checked prior surgical procedure cannot be performed at
all/performed according to plan compromise the health of the patient.
* Consumables are not topped up prior more time spent on locating and retrieving
consumables prolonged surgical and GA time increased anaesthetic risk of the
patient.
* Surgical instruments/packs not checked prior surgical procedure cannot be performed
at all/performed according to plan compromise the health of the patient
what does a multi-parameter monitory equipment do
measure multiple vitals of the patient.
These include:
* Heart rate
* SPO2 (oxygen saturation level)
* ECG
* Respiration rate
* ETCO2
* Blood pressure
what does a cautery do
uses electrocauterization to remove unhealthy tissues/ ligate blood vessels-> helps to reduce or stop excessive bleeding during surgical procedure
what are the two different cautery and how does current pass through
monopolar cautery: probe
electrode is used to direct
energy to the tissue/blood
vessel-> current passes through patient and to return pad (must shave hair to stick pad to body) -> machine to cmplete circuit
bipolar cautery: The current passes from one side of the
forceps, through the tissue/blood
vessel, to the other side of the forceps-> machine to complete circuit
purpose of a suction machine
remove excess/unwanted fluid, debris and blood from a surgical space-> helps with visualisation

what is an ultrasonic cleaner
t is an equipment that veterinary clinics use to thoroughly
remove contaminants such as blood and tissue from surgical
instruments
how does the utrasonic cleaner work
utilizes the principal of cavitation,
which refers to the formation of bubbles when the static pressure of the liquid falls below the vapor pressure of the
liquid. Cavitation is caused by ultrasonic waves which are of
high frequency. The bubbles formed can reach the narrow
cracks and edges of the surgical instruments, removing
contaminants effectively.
How to use ultrasonic cleaner
Do not overfill-> won’t clean properly
After cleaning, remove instruments from uktrasonic cleaner rinse and dip instrument in surgical milk solution (for lubrication) l for at least 5 mins
How to know when to change sol (distilled water with multiZyme) in ubtrasonic cleaner
Starts to turn murky
