Span of Control
The number of employees that are managed by a manager
Organisational Structure
The levels of different workers within a company
Hierarchical Organisation
Tall structured organisations with many layers of management
Flat Structure
A structure with fewer managers and wide spans of control
Centralised Structure
Where decisions are made at head office by a small group of people - high levels of control
Accountability
Being responsible for something and being held responsible for it and it’s outcomes
Decentralised Structure
Where decisions are made locally, allowing the business to adapt to the local market - can be more creative
Jargon
Technical or obscure words used by a group of people - it may not be understood by everyone
Roles
The different jobs within a business, eg a chef, waiting staff
Motivation
Reasons for behaving in a particular way. In business this often refers how productive an employee is and how can productivity be improved
Advantage to a business of full-time contract?
