Q

What is the trend in halogens? Why?

A

The reactivity, boiling point and melting point decreases, due to the nucleus being further away from the outer electron shell so there is less pull between the atoms, but the intermolecular forces get stronger, the further you go down but they generally have low melting points.

Q

What are the uses of some noble gases?

A

Helium- Balloons and airships as it is less dense than air and none flammable.

Argon- Used when melding metal as it is more dense than air so the metal doesn’t get oxidised.

They were used in bulbs so the metal wires weren’t oxidised.`
