4
Q

why do enzymes only usually catalyse one reaction

A

enzymes have a specific active site and only specific substrates can fit .

5
Q

what does it mean when an enzyme has denatured

A

if a temperature is too high it breaks the shape of the enzyme and so it doesn’t fit in the active site

Q

… function
arteries
capillaries
veins

A

arteries - carry blood away from the heart
capillaries - these are involved in the exchange of
materials at the tissues
veins - carry blood to the heart

Q

structure of arteries

A

pump the blood out a high pressure so strong and elastic walls , contain thick layers of muscle , elastic fibres to stretch .

15
Q

explain the structure of red blood cells

A

biconcave disc structure gives large surface area , don’t have a nucleus so more room to carry oxygen and contain haemoglobin

16
Q

what causes coronary heart disease and what are stents used for

A

when coronary arteries that supply blood to the heart get blocked by fatty deposits . Stents are used to push and squash fatty deposits to the artery walls to have more blood flow

17
Q

What is Transpiration ?

A

the movement of water from the roots , through the xylem and out of the leaves

18
Q

What is translocation ?

A

the transport of foods and dissolved sugars that go in both directions

19
Q

what is the phloem ?

A

The phloem is made of living cells , that transport food and dissolved sugars , in both directions in the plant

20
Q

What is the xylem ?

A

made of dead cells , they carry water and ions and they move water from the roots to the leaves and out by transpiration
