Black hand
A secret society to unite all Serbs outside Serbia who were ruled by Austria-Hungary or the Ottoman Empire. It conducted propaganda campaign and established a network of revolutionary units throughout Bosnia. Thus the Serbs were very suspicious.

Why did Britain join war?
Because in the Treaty of London, the British promised Belgium that they would protect them if Belgium got invaded. When Germany invaded Belgium in the Schlieffen plan, Britain joined the war.

Role of power for triggering the war
Power become so strong that it just took one event (assassination of Archduke) to trigger war. It was political economic, colonial and military rivalries between the powers that caused the war.
What were all the countries reasons’ for increase in tension?
Britain: Wanted a stronger navy than Germany
France: Wanted Alsace-Lorraine back and felt its colonies were threatened
Germany: Wanted a ‘place in the sun’ (a colony in Africa)
Austria-Hungary: Rivals with Russia and wanted to take control over the Slavs
Russia: Wanted to help the Slavs in the Balkans under Austrian rule
