What was beneficial about the Young Turks revolt
Austria-Hungary was able to annex the provinces of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
What did the King of Serbia do when B&H was annexed?
The King of Serbia claimed that Bosnia and Herzegovina should belong to Serbia - Thus Serbia sent a formal protest to Austria-Hungary. Russia also supported this protest
Which side was Germany on when Austria-Hungary annexed B&H
It was on Austria-Hungary’s side
Why did Russia and Serbia end their dispute not long after the annexation problem?
Because they weren’t prepared to go into battle with Germany
Impact of the Bosnian Crisis
Encouraged Russia to increase the size of its army
Ruler of Bulgaria took advantage of the annexation situation, crowned himself king and declared Bulgarian independence
When was the first Balkan war?
October 1912 - May 1913
What was the aim of the first Balkan war
Bulgaria, Greece, Montenegro and Serbia all joined together with the aim off getting Turkey out of Europe
Outcome of the first Balkan war
Turkey was unable to compete with the combined armies of the Balkan states and surrendered
Turkey agreed to give up all their land in Europe which was shared between the Balkan league
When was the second Balkan war
June 1913 - August 1913
What was the aim of the second Balkan war
King Ferdinand of Bulgaria was not satisfied with the way Turkey’s land was split up between the Balkan league. A month after the agreement with Turkey, he ordered troops to attack Serbia and Greece.
Serbia and Greece’s response to the attacks by Bulgaria
They invaded Bulgaria with the help of Romania. Turkish armies also got involved, in hopes to gain some land they lost.
Outcome of second Balkan war
Bulgaria gave up some land it had gained from the first Balkan war
Turkey regained land
Result of BOTH Balkan wars:
Serbia doubled in size and grew aggressive
Serbs in B&H grew anxious and wanted to join Serbia
Austria-Hungary grew worried about the possibility of revolt within its empire
Bulgaria was determined to take revenge on Serbia
