HYPOTHESIS
Use of systematic methods to study a phenomenon and create a general knowledge.
RESEARCH
What is known in a particular field of discipline or study ; Facts and information or awareness or familiarity gained experience of a fact or situation.
KNOWLEDGE
From Latin scientia, meaning “knowledge”, refers to any systematic knowledge or practice in a discipline of study.
SCIENCE
A type of reasoning wherein specific concepts are made from General conclusions. Cause and Effect.
DEDUCTION
A type of reasoning that uses specific details to form a general conclusion.
INDUCTION
An organized system of accepted knowledge that is composed of concepts, propositions, definitions, and assumptions intended to explain a set of fact, event or phenomena.
THEORY
Defined as an idea formulated in the mind or an experience perceived and observed.
CONCEPT
Explains the relationship of different concepts.
PROPOSITION
Composed of various descriptions which convey a general meaning and reduces the vagueness in understanding a set of concepts.
DEFINITION
A statement that specifies the relationship or connection of factual concepts or phenomena.
ASSUMPTION
According to them, “Nursing is the diagnosis and treatment of human responses to actual or potential health problems”.
AMERICAN NURSING ASSOCIATION (ANA)
Defined nursing as encompassing autonomous and collaborative care of individuals of all ages, families, groups and communities, sick or well and in all settings.
THE INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF NURSING
Defined nursing as the initiation and/ or performance of nursing services, singly or in collaboration with another, to individuals, families and communities and in any health care settings.

A set of concepts and propositions that sets forth the phenomena with which a discipline is concerned
METAPARADIGM
This metaparadigm concept is the one receiving care; Recipient of the care.
PERSON
This concept of is relative to the person and is defined according to the patient’s perspective. The holistic level of wellness that the person experiences.
HEALTH
This metaparadigm concept focuses on the external and internal aspects of life that influence the person.
ENVIRONMENT
This nursing metaparadigm concept is related to the art and science of nursing ; it consists of nursing actions or nursing interventions.
