Topic 2 Flashcards
What is a prokaryotic cell
a single-cell organism with prokaryotic features made from a single prokaryote cell
what is a Eukaryotic cell
an organism made of many eukaryotic cells.
What does the cell surface plasma do?
Regulates the movement of substances and detects chemicals.
describe the structure of the cell surface plasma.
Found on the surface of animal cells and just inside the cell walls in plants and is made from lipids and protiens.
Describe the structure of the nucleus?
A large organelle surrounded by a nuclear envelope.
Describe the function of the Nucleus.
The nucleus stores the chromosomes and controls the cell’s activity by controlling DNA transcription.
Describe the structure of the Nuclear envelope.
The structure that surrounds the nucleus contains many pores.
Describe the function of the Nuclear envelope.
Controls substances in and out of the nucleus
what are chromosomes?
protein-bound linear DNA storing genetic code
Describe the structure of the mitochondria.
Contain a double membrane the inner membrane is filled with cristae. inside the mitochondria is the matric which houses enzymes needed in respiration.
