Define “employment at-will.”
An employer may terminate an employee at any time. Employment at-will also allows the employee to leave a job at any time, and for any reason, without facing adverse legal consequences. Employment at will covers hiring, firing and promotions.
What are the consequences to employees of “employment at-will?”
Being financially insecure & vulnerable.
What are the three exceptions to “employment at-will?”
- Public policy exception.
- Implied contract exception.
- Implied covenant of good faith exception. Both parties agree to treat each other in good faith when this is broken the employee has a cause of action for wrongful termination
What is an implied contract?
A legally enforceable agreement that arises from conduct, from assumed intentions, from some relationship between the employer and employee.
There is no written contract between the two parties,

What are the benefits of a diverse workforce?
A diverse workforce leads to creativity and innovation.
Define the term diversity.
Diversity is the differences between people (personality, education, race, build, etc.).
Define the term inclusion.
Describes the extent to which each person in the organization feels welcomed, respected, supported, and valued as a team member.
What is the Civil Rights Act?
The Civil Rights Act of 1964, which ended segregation in public places and banned employment discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or national origin.
What is the purpose of the Age Discrimination in employment Act (ADEA)?
To protect workers over 40 against discrimination.
Define the term “religious discrimination.”
Treating a person unfavorably because of his or her religious beliefs.
How does the EEOC define “race”?
A local geographic or global human population—a distinct group—that is evident by genetically transmitted characteristics. For example, American Indian and Pacific Islander are racial categories.
