Advantages of work:
• Work allows us to use our skills and talents.
• Work allows you to do something good for a member of your family, or local community.

Advantages of employment:
• Employment provides income
• It gives a sense of security to people, as they can provide for themselves and their families.
What is volunteering and give one example
When a person gives their time and energy to help others in the community because they see it as their social responsibility rather than to achieve a personal goal or in return for payment, this is known as volunteerism.
List 3 benefits of volunteering
Benefits of volunteering:
• Volunteers gain valuable experience and learn new skills.
• Volunteers make professional connections with people, that can help them in their career.
• Volunteering increases happiness and mental health.
What Is the labour force?
The Labour Force includes all people who are available for work.
What is unemployment and how are unemployment people payed?
Unemployment is when people who are willing and able to work are unable to find a suitable job.
Each week unemployed people are paid a sum of money, called Jobseeker’s Benefit, by the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection.
List 3 reasons for unemployment
Reasons for unemployment:
• New competition causes some firms to close down or reduce their workforce.
• New technology means jobs can be now done by machines.
• The economy could be going through a recession, which can lead to fewer goods and services being purchase, for example during the Covid 19 pandemic.
Why do people become self employed?
People who work for themselves are said to be self-employed. They become self-employed because:
• They want to be their own boss and make their own decisions.
• They want to be more successful.
• They have seen a gap in the market for a new product or service.
What is the public sector?
The public sector refers to all the people who are employed by the state, for example civil servants, teachers, doctors, nurses etc
What is the private sector?
People who are not employed by the state work in the private sector, for example engineers, accountants, bank workers etc.
