Define the difference between a religious practise and a religious ritual
A religious practise is a recognised way of doing something religious.
A religious ritual is a symbolic action that promotes what is important about a faith
What are the 3 key features of the sacrament of reconciliation?
1) Restores the relationship between you, God and the Church.
2) involves four main elements ; contrition, confession, satisfaction and absolution.
3) Has three different rituals (individual, communal and general absolution)
What is the relationship with the lives of people?
- freedom from mortal and venial sin
- restoration
- available to all baptised people
- conversion of heart
- freedom from guilt
Describe the four main elements of the practice Reco
1) Contrition - Catholics must be aware of their sinfulness and must be truely sorry for their sins.
2) confession - Catholics must openly confess their sins.
3) act of penance - Catholics must do something to show their willingness to be forgiven.
4) absolution - Catholics are then granted forgiveness by the Priest.
