1) Restores the relationship between you, God and the Church.
2) involves four main elements ; contrition, confession, satisfaction and absolution.

A

1) Contrition - Catholics must be aware of their sinfulness and must be truely sorry for their sins.
2) confession - Catholics must openly confess their sins.
3) act of penance - Catholics must do something to show their willingness to be forgiven.
4) absolution - Catholics are then granted forgiveness by the Priest.
