Topic 10: Chi Sqaure test Flashcards
Chi saqure variables +ex (2)
- Statistical test used when data are categorical, cant calculate mean
- Ex: Type of music preference
Binomial experiment + ex (2)
Each Trial only has two possible outcomes
Multinomial experiment + ex (2)
- Fixed number of trials in which there are more than 2 possible outcomes for each trial (Multiple categories)
Chi Square Goodness-of-fit Test is used to test
- Whether a frequency distribution fits an expected distribution that is predicted by theory when observations are sorted on one dimention (test compares observed and expected values)
Null and Alternative hypothesis for Goodness of fit + ex
- H0= The frequency distribution fits the specified distribution
- HA= The frequency distribution does not fit the specified distribution
Observed frequency (O) is found through
data collection
Expected frequency (E) is found through
- using the specufued distribution under H0 and the equation E= npi
Requirement of conducting chi test:
- Observed frequencies must be obtained by using a random sample
- Each frequency must be >= to 5
Degree of freedom for chi-square
- K-1
- Where K is the number of categories
Chi square test of independence
- Used to test the independence of two variables by determining whether the occurence of one variable affects the probability of the occurence of the other variable.
Expected frequency for Chi square test of independence
Chi square test of independence degree of freedom:
- (r-1) (c-1)
Chi square test of independence Ha and Ho
Ho= They are independent
HA= They are dependent
Chi square test of independence rejecting Ho phrase:
Chi Square effect values:
