Topic 1 Particle Theory And Chemical Reactions Flashcards
Melting
Change of a solid becoming a liquid by heat
Boiling
A liquid becomes a Vapor by touching a hot surface
Condensing
Condensation is the process where a gas changes into a liquid or solid when cooled
Freezing
Freezing is the process where a gas changes into a liquid or solid when it’s temperature drops below freezing point
Sublimation
When anything solid turns into a gas without first becoming a liquid
Déposition
The change of state from a gas to a solid
Collision theory
Collision theory says that for a chemical reaction to happen particles must collide into each other with enough energy and the right alignment
Particle
A particle is a tiny unit of matter like atoms or molecules that makes up everything around us
Surface area
The amount of surface that a material has per unit
Concentration
Concentration is the amount of a substance in a given volume of solution
Température
Temperature is the measure of hotness or coldness express in terms of any of several scales including Fahrenheit and Celsius
Rate of reaction
The rate of reaction is how fast a chemical reaction occurs usually measured by the change in concentration of reactants or products over time
Acid
An acid is a substance that donates protons or accepts electrons
Alkali
A chemical that can dissolve in water combine with acids to from hydroxide ions and salts and make acids less acidic
