What is the theory of parliamentary sovereignty?
Parliament can pass any law it wants to and the courts cannot interfere - they have to apply the law
What is direct legislation?
Laws passed directly by Parliament, known as statutes
What is another name for direct legislation?
Primary legislation
What is indirect legislation?
When Parliament delegates authority to other bodies to create detailed regulations under the framework set by direct legislation
What is another name for indirect legislation?
Delegated legislation
What does indirect legislation require?
An enabling Act (essentially a framework of how to set the law)

The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
What is an example of indirect legislation?
Disability Discrimination Act 1995

Statutory instruments - A type of law created by an individual or body under powers given to them by an Act of Parliament
