Topic 1 - Movement Measures Flashcards
2 types of movement measures
- Behavioural
- temporal -> when, how long?
- error -> where? - Electrophysiological
- electromyography (EMG)- muscle electrical activity
- force bc force js highly relates to electrical activity generated by the muscle
Reaction Time
Stimulus onset until response initiation
Central and peripheral processing (how quickly you interpret stimulus info and program/ iniate a movement)
Movement Time
Response initiation until response termination
Gives indication of how the movement was programmes and the efficiency kf feedbsck utilization
Simple RT
No response competition bc only one stimulus and action
Choice RT
High degree of response competition bc multiple stimuli with specific responses
2 tyoes of Error Measures
- Constant error
2. Variable error
Constant Error
DL - AL =
Tells us about behavioural bias
Variable error
Distribution of the errors
Tells us the consistency of behaviour
2 types of EMG approaches
- Fine wire approach
- less noise bc only one muscle fibre - Surface EMG
- more noise bc many muscle fibres / MUs
With more force, do myscle EMG singlas increase or decrease?
Increase with more force bc more MUs or larger MUs
When signals are rectified they can tell us about ______?
Force
Pre-motor time
Stimulus onset until onset of muscle activity
Tells us about central (high order) processing and perioheral nerve integrity
Motor time
Onset of muscle activity to inset of movement
Tells us about peripheral mechanical characteristics (muscle stiffness, inertia)
