Topic 1 Key Concepts In Physics Flashcards
What are the prefixes?
Giga-G-10to the power of 9, Mega-M-10to the power of 6, Kilo-K-10to the power of 3
Centi-c-10to the power of -2, Milli-m-10to the power of -3, Micro-upside down h-10to the power of -6, Nano-n-10to the power of -9
What are Scalar and vector quantities?
Scalar: size, magnitude and no direction
Vector: size, magnitude and a specific direction
Scalar: mass, speed, distance
Vector: force, velocity, acceleration
Speed, distance time
Distance time graphs
Distance= speed x time
Going in a straight line up = constant speed
Going in a slope upwards = acceleration
Going in a slope upwards but then curving back down = deceleration
A straight line across = stationary
Equations acceleration and velocity
Acceleration= change in velocity / time
A=(v-u)/t
Velocity= final velocity-initial velocity=2 x acceleration x distance
V(squared)- u(squared)= 2 x a x X
Velocity/time graphs
The slope or gradient of the graph tells us the acceleration of the vehicle
The area under the graph tells us the distanced travelled
Acceleration = change in velocity/ time
