Topic 1- How does our body communicate with us? Flashcards
Describe the structure and function of the nervous system.
Structure: Made up of the brain and spinal cord, the CNS processes information and decides how the body should respond.
Function:Consisting of nerves that extend throughout the body, the PNS carries messages to and from the CNS to the rest of the body.
Explain how the nervous system helps maintain homeostasis
Homeostasis is closely linked to the nervous system because it helps keep the body’s internal environment stable
Define stimulus and response
A response is a reaction to a stimulus. A stimulus is something that causes a living thing to respond or react.
Outline the stimulus-response pathway
Stimulus response works through pathways such as detection, Processing and Response.
What is the stimulus response detection.
Sensory organs like the eyes, ears, skin and etc detect changes in the environment, such as temperature, light, or sound.
What is stimulus response processing.
These sensory signals are sent to the brain through nerves. The brain interprets the signals and decides on the necessary response.
What is stimulus response
The brain sends signals back through the nerves to the appropriate body parts to take action.
