Topic 1 Flashcards
What are the main part of the atom?
Protons - Positive
Neutrons - Neutral
Electrons - Negative
How can an object get an electrostatic charge?
Insulating materials can be given an charge by rubbing two materials together. Electrons are transferred from on material to the other. The material that has gained electrons has a negative charge.
What is an induced charge?
A charged object can attract uncharged objects. This happens because the materiel induces a charge.
What are some used of static electricity?
Paint Spraying & insecticide sprayer - Droplets of paint are given the same charge, the droplets repel each other so they spread out more evenly.
What is direct current?
An electric current in a wire is a flow of electrons. The current supplied by the cells and batteries is direct current. In a direct current the electrons all flow in the same direction.
