Topic 1 Flashcards
1
Q
3 requirements for Evolution
A
- Variation in a trait exists within a population (More variation = more option of evolution)
- Traits are Heritable (You can actually pass on traits
- Not all alleles are going to be passed onto the next generation
2
Q
Allele
A
Individuals may have same gene but different alleles.
E.g Sickle cell Anemia
* Homozygous: 2 sickle cell allele; have the disease and has all affect
* Heterozygous: 1 sickle cell allele + one normal allele (more resistant to malaria)
3
Q
- Natural Selection + Fitness of Individual =
- Mutation + Fitness of Individual =
- Natural Selection + Number of alleles in a population =
- Mutation + Number of alleles in a population =
A
- Neither. Some traits could be passed down while others die out.
- Neither. Mutation is random
- Down. The better offspring is passed down.
- Up. Mutation brings in new alleles
