East Europe + Poland governments would have free elections, but Stalin expected them to be pro-communist
Borders of Poland would go back to normal (giving Soviet Union gains)

Potsdam, July-August 1945

Roosevelt replaced by Truman
Churchill replaced by Attlee
During Potsdam:
Truman was more suspicious of Stalin

Truman objected against the government agreement in East Europe and Poland - he wanted less communist influence
Impact of Atomic Bombs
Americans expected it to scare USSR but no - it made USSR more aware by creating ‘buffer zones’. This dramatically increased Cold War tensions, leading to arms race.
