Two Models of Professionalism
- The Business Model -making a profit within the boundaries set by law
- The Professional Model- have implicit social contract with the public.
Three types of Ethics or Morality
- Common Morality -basis or reference point of moral beliefs shared by everyone
- Personal Ethics- set of moral beliefs of a person.
- Professional Ethics- set of standards adopted by professionals
Notions of Common Morality
- Designed to protect individuals from violations and invasions of personhood
- Distinction between the negative and positive aspects.

Important Characteristics of Professional Ethics (State three)
- PE is stated in a formal Code.
- Professional Code of Ethics focus on the issues that are important in that profession.
- When one is in a professional relationship, PE is supposed to take precedence over personal morality.
- PE differs from personal morality in its degree of restriction of personal conducts.
- PE has positive and negative dimensions.

Aspirational Ethics
-promotes the welfare of the public
-prevent violations of safety and health

Spectrum of Activities for Aspirational Ethics
- Good Works
-refers to a more understanding and altruistic examples of AE
-exemplary or commendable actions - Ordinary Positive Engineering
-done in the course of one’s job which do not involve heroism or self-sacrifice
-contribute to human welfare

It refers to those character traits that serve to define the kind of person that is professionally speaking.
