Topic 03-Reproduction Flashcards
1
Q
Use of FSH(Follicle stimulating hormone)
A
- Produced by the pituitary gland in the brain after menstruation
- Stimulates a follicle to grow and increase in size
2
Q
Use of follicle
A
- Develops into a mature ovum
2. Produces oestrogen
3
Q
Use of oestrogen
A
- Secreted by follicle
- Causes the uterus lining to thicken and prevents another egg from developing
- Stimulates LH(Luteinising hormone)
4
Q
Use of LH(Luteinising hormone)
A
- Causes the remainder of follicle cells to form yellow body(Corpus luteum)
2.
5
Q
Uses of yellow body
A
Produces progesterone
6
Q
Use of progesterone
A
Causes the uterus lining to further thicken and prevents it from degenerating
7
Q
Conditions required for artificial propagation
A
- Sterilised conditions
- Sufficient supply of nutrients, oxygen and water
- Growth hormones
8
Q
Process of artificial propagation
A
- A growing tip is removed from the healthy parent plant
- The growing tip is dipped in a sterilising fluid And cut into many small pieces
- Each piece is placed in a test tube containing sterile agar jelly
- Callus of lily cells is formed after six weeks and a small lily plant is formed after 6 months
- The small lily plant is transferred to a large compost to grow
9
Q
Solutions to infertility
A
- Taking pills containing FSH can promote ovulation in women
- Taking pills to make the pituitary glands insensitive to oestrogen because it can inhibit the production of FSH—>prevent ovum from maturing
- Artificial insemination(人工授精): Collecting sperms from a man and placing them via a fine plastic tube into the woman’s uterus
- In vitro fertilisation. Fertilisation takes place out of the woman’s body. Embryo is placed in the woman’s uterus lining for implantation
