Topic 01-Specialised cells Flashcards
1
Q
Specialty of red blood cells
A
Have no nucleus to provide more space to contain haemoglobin for carrying more oxygen to different parts of the human body
2
Q
Specialty of root hair cells
A
- Found at the tip of the root of a plant
2. Have finger-like projections to increase surface area for absorbing water and mineral ions
3
Q
Specialty of palisade mesophyll cells
A
- Closely packed, columnar cells under the epidermis
- Contains a high density of chloroplast
- Carry out photosynthesis
4
Q
Specialty of Ciliated cells
A
- Cell surface has a layer of hair-like structure(cilia)which can move together to create a current
- Along the trachea and bronchi, ciliates cells help to move and push mucus, which trapped dust and microbes in the air, away from the lungs
5
Q
Specialty of xylem vessels
A
- A hallow tube of dead cells
- The cells have no end walls and is strengthened by lignin
- Transport water and mineral ions and also supports the plant
6
Q
Specialty of nerve cells
A
- For conducting nerve impulses
- The cell has a long fibre called an axon along which nerve impulses travel
- May be covered with a fatty sheath which gives electrical insulation
- With many branched endings to connect with many other cells
7
Q
Specialty of sperm and egg cells
A
- For reproduction
- Sperms are small and mobile
- Eggs are large with stored nutrients
