10
Q

Does Shan Yao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma) tonify the KD

A

NO - this herb is NOT an actual kidney tonic. This herb is a potent astringent. It treats the branch by stabilizing and binding fluids such as: uterine bleeding, sweat, frequent urination due to KD DEF.
The only time it is used for astringing fluids AND tonifying is when the symptom is caused by spleen deficiency, and in that instance only it is used to tonify the spleen.
