Generalized erythema to dorsal aspect of the tongue, may appear normal
as well
Burning sensation on tongue
Wide range of causes: Anemia, fungal infections (Candidiasis), Vitamin B
Deficiency, xerostomia, allergies, diabetes, hypothyroidism
TX: Proper diagnosis and then resolution for underlying issue
Transient Lingual Papillitis
Inflamed fungiform papillae
Take on papulo-keratic form
Painful
Traumatic Injury
Typical involves trauma to the tongue, tongue laceration and/or submucosal hemorrhage
Localized trauma with localized or diffuse swelling
Extensive bleeding can occur due to intensely vascular network
Severe trauma of laceration can take 4-6 weeks to heal

◦ Dorsal tongue is most common oral site
◦ Pale, smooth or stippled nodule
◦ TX: Excisional biopsy
