Mucus extravasation cyst that involves the sublingual gland
It is a variation of a mucocele found on the floor of the mouth
Can cause posterior and superior positioning of the tongue and
encroach on the airway.
Dysphagia is a common issue as the swelling increases
Surgical excision is recommended to remove the gland that is rupture
and involved and decrease recurrence
Likely results due to trauma
1-5 cm in diameter
Fluctuant and tender, with possible distension in area under chin
Sialolith of Submandibular Gland
Sialolith is a calcium deposit formed in a salivary duct
Often the Wharton’s duct form the submandibular gland is
involved
Pain and swelling can locally be seen, especially at orifice of
duct or posterior in canal to gland
Appears as white to yellowish swelling or mass at the
orifice of the duct of deeper in neck and floor of mouth is
involved
Can be imagines with radiograph, especially if calcified
