What is MAU?
Multistation Access Unit: token ring-specific hub that connects PCs together
T/F: token ring does not require stations to have permanent addresses.
F: each token ring card has address burned in; manufacturers have blocks of registered addresses
What two types of connection does token ring support?
- lobe that connects workstation to ring
- trunk that connects multiple token ring hubs together
What happens for transmission to occur in a token ring network?
Source receives a token, which passes one to next in continuous loop.
Source inserts frame into ring including destination and source address.
Destination recognizes it’s address, retransmits frame with “bit copied set”.
Source eventually receives copied frame and sends out token.
