Q

How is vineyard land and production divided?

A

The average size of holdings is small, between 1 and 2 ha, and many growers have contracts with larger producers to provide grapes, especially Aszú berries.
Eg, the state-owned Grand Tokaj sources grapes from over 2000 growers, and produces around 35% of the regions wines.

A

170,000hL, although there has been some vintage variation.
Aszú 10%, dry 21%.
A significant amount of the remainder is inexpensive, non-botrytised wine (often semi sweet, achieved by stopping fermentation early) destined for the home market and other Eastern European countries.
