You should always follow the insurance plan contract. True or false?
False — follow the board’s rules
Things easily forgotten
- ret/AR
- amp or range of accom
- angle of vision
Amp or range of accom
It is not enough to choose a test that involves the use of accom (NRA/PRA, FCC). MUST record amp of accom (Donder’s, Minus lens amps)
- scale on near point rod or test in free space. If using near point rod, you may end up writing >8D.
- pull away method is MORE RELIABLE for kids
*** ACCOM IS A MONOCULAR TEST!
Angle/extent of vision
Different form of peripheral vision assessment aimed at ensuring person has enough to comply w/ DPS requirements.
Most have... ~100 deg temporally ~60 deg nasally ~70 deg sup ~80 deg inf
***In Texas, a minimum of 140 deg total peripheral vision is required to have a DL.
How to assess angle/extent of vision
- formally: Esterman binocular VF test by Humphrey
- informally (most common): extending your arm so that it is slightly behind the pt’s head while you hold a target. Ask pt to tell you when they first see your target as you begin to move it towards the midline. Record angle (most commonly est to be 90 deg)
Recording: “extent of vision 90 deg to L and R”
It is okay to leave a space blank when you are unable to perform a test. True or false?
FALSE!!!
