- The ideology that drives globalization

- Refer to the increase and decrease in globalism
Interconnectedness
- Quality or condition of being interconnected
Interdependent
- Dependent on one another
Identity
- The fact of being, or feeling that you are a particular type of person
- The qualities that make a person themselves/different from others
National Identity
- A collective or group identity based on language, ethnicity, culture, religion, spirituality or politics
Transnationals
- Companies that operate in two or more countries
- Also called a multinational corporation
Ex. Mcdonalds, Starbucks

Ex. obtain goods and services from a foreign supplier
Trade Agreements
- Any contractual agreement between countries concerning their trade relationships
- Usually used to eliminate trade barriers between countries
- More trade = globalization
NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement)
- Treaty between Canada, U.S.A., and Mexico to improve trade by removing tariffs
- Free trade
Trans Pacific Partnership
- Twelve countries bordering the Pacific Ocean signed an agreement to deepen trade between these nations by slashing tariffs and and fostering trade
Localism
- Idea that people should have control over what happens in their local area
- Local businesses should be celebrated
- differences between places should be respected
Sanctions
- When one country does not work or deal with another country
World Trade Organization
- Intergovernmental organization that is concerned with the regulation of international trade between nations
G7
- Made up of 7 industrialized nations that hold an annual meeting to hold consensus on global issues such as global security and terrorism
United Nations
- Intergovernmental organization
- Aims to maintain international peace and security
La Francaphonie
- Group of 88 member states and governments that share French as a common language
- Work to promote French language and culture
Collective Identity
- Combination of beliefs, values, view of history and language of a people
Individual Identity
- Traits that make up a persons individuality
Global Village
- The idea that the entire world and its inhabitants are becoming one large community interconnected by technology
- Particularly television
Migration
- one population moving from one place to another
Accommodation
- An inclusive approach that allows religious or ethnic groups to maintain their distinctive culture in mainstream society
Integration
- incorporation of diverse minority groups into mainstream culture
- uses accommodation
universalization of Pop Culture
- Due to transnationals producing many movies, books, TV shows, etc. many people watch and experience the same culture
Media Transnational
- Corportation that produces books, movies etc. in two or more countries
Media Consolidation
mergers of media transnationals that results in concentration of ownership
Hybridization
- Blending in media and communication technologies resulting in new modes of expression and cross cultural consumption
- Leads to showing of different cultures
Homogenization
- A trend towards uniformity as a result of globalization
Cultural Revitalisation
- Process in which unique cultures regain a sense of identity
