Q

why are some reactions 0 enthalpy change

A

bonds formed same enthalpy as bonds broken / the same bonds

Q

what is the chelate effect

A

the increase in stability caused by monodentate ligands being substituted for multidentate ligands, because when monodentate are substituted for multidentate, the number of particles in solution increases as more monodentate ligands than multidentate which are now in the complex. more particles means greater entropy and so more likely to occur
