TLE Flashcards
This list, ranks the line types precedence from
highest to lowest:
- Object/visible line
- Hidden line
- Cutting plane line
- Center line
- Break line
- Dimension and extension line
- Section lines
In technical drawings, lines are part
of a specialized graphic language
that is standardized throughout
industry.
LINES
Very light, easily erased lines that
are used to block the main lay
out.
CONSTRUCTION LINES /
GUIDELINES
are the edges or outlines of an
object. They are drawn as solid
lines with a thick/ heavy weight
VISIBLE LINES
is used to indicate all visible edges of
an object
VISIBLE LINE
is used to show
surfaces, edges, or corners of an object that
are hidden from view.
HIDDEN OBJECT LINE
are used to show the center of
holes and symmetrical features.
CENTER LINES
are used when partial views of
symmetrical parts are drawn.
SYMMETRY LINES
are
used when dimensioning an object.
EXTENSION and DIMENSION LINES
are used to indicate the part of the
drawing to which a note refers
LEADERS
are used when it is desirable to
shorten the view of a long part or used to
indicate part of the object that has been
removed.
BREAK LINES
is used to
designate where an imaginary cutting took
place
CUTTING-PLANE LINE
is used to indicate the
surface in the section view imagined to
have been cut along the cutting-plane line.
SECTION LINING
is used to indicate
direction of sight when a partial view is
used.
VIEWING-PLANE LINE
are used to indicate alternate position
of moving parts, adjacent position of moving parts,
adjacent position of related parts, and repetitive
detail.
PHANTOM LINES
An image of an object (actual or
imagined viewed as it would be seen
by someone who looks at the object
either in a chosen directions or from a
selected point of view.
Pictorial view
To
communicate
design ideas
and plans.
Engineering
To visualize
building
designs and
lay out.
Architecture
To showcase
product
feature s and
functionality.
Product design
3 Types of pictorial drawing
- Isometric
- Oblique
- Perspective
A method of graphic representation of
3D objects.
Isometric drawing
Is one of the best types of drawings to use
to provide a pictorial representation of an
object as they produce an image of an
object in 3D that is very similar to what the
human eye sees.
Perspective drawing
A method of drawing objects in 3D
Oblique drawing
