TKD 9 KUP Flashcards
What is a Pattern?
Set of fundamental movements, mainly defence and attack, set in a logical sequence to deal with imaginary opponents.
Why do we perform patterns?
To improve our TKD techniques, develop sparring techniques, improve flexibility, master body shifting, develop muscles, balance and control.
Why are there 24 patterns?
The founder, Major General Choi Hong Hi said “Here I leave Tae Kwon-Do for mankind. As a trace of a man of the late 20th Century. The 24 patterns represent 24 hours, one day or all of my life.” Leaving a good spiritual legacy.
what does Chon-Ji mean?
Chon-Ji means “the Heaven the Earth”, meaning the creation of the world or the beginning of human history. The pattern has 2 similar parts; one to represent the Heaven and the other the Earth.
