TIZIO TABLE LAMP Flashcards
Who designed the Tizio Table Lamp?
Richard Sapper
In what year was the Tizio Table Lamp designed?
1971
Why did Sapper design the Tizio Table Lamp?
He wanted a lamp that could be moved with the soft touch of a finger and one that would never fall over due to worn out joints.
Why didn’t a lamp such as the Anglepoise lamp fulfil Sapper’s needs?
Parallel arms and balancing springs meant the lamp either had to be clamped to the table or you were left with a limited range of movement and Sapper never had a lot of space for his lamp on his desk anyway.
What solution did Sapper come up with for his Tizio Table Lamp?
He decided on a structure that would be kept in balance all the time by counter weights
Why does the Tizio Table Lamp not require any wires to run down the arms?
The lamp consists of a Halogen Bulb which has low voltage requirements, so the arms themselves can safely be used as conductors.
How might you describe the aesthetics of the Tizio Table Lamp?
Clean (lack of wires) and minimalist, possibly even sculpture like
What is the purpose of the interior reflective element of the Tizio Table Lamp?
It focuses light and minimises glare
What design features are incorporated into the Tizio Table Lamp to counteract the heat of the Halogen bulb?
The bulb is covered with glass to prevent contact and the adjustment rod doubles as a spacer to prevent the head from touching a surface
Why is the base of the Tizio Table Lamp designed effectively?
It is round and heavy so prevents the lamp from toppling over. It also houses the transformer and permits the lamp to rotate a full 360 degrees
