Q

What do titrations allow you to do?

A

Calculate the unknown concentration of a solution by the known concentration of another. You know the volume of both the acid and the alkali.

Q

How would you carry out a titration?

A

Fill a burette to 0.0 mark with alkali. Use a pipette to measure out a known volume of acid into a conical flask and add three drops of universal indicator. Place flask on white tile under burette and release the alkali slowly into the acid and indicator. When a colour change occurs, close the burette and read the volume of alkali needed to react with the acid.
