Titration and experimentation Flashcards
Equation for standard solutions from a different concentration?
Volume to use
=Final conc/Initial conc x end volume needed
Methyl orange in acids/alkalis?
Acid= Red
Alkali= Yellow
Phenolphthalein in acids/alkalis?
Acid= Colourless
Alkali= Pink
What property of these indicators make them suitable for titrations?
They change colour quickly over a small pH range
Steps to make a standard solution
1) Find moles of solute
2) Fine mass of solute
3) Measure solute out and dissolve in a small drop of distilled water
4) Pour into volumetric flask
5) Rinse beaker with distilled water and pour into volumetric flask
6) Add until it reaches the neck
7) Pipette until meniscus reaches the line
8) Stopper bottle, mix it and recheck
