Titration Flashcards
Equivalence point
The point in a titration where the amount of titrant added is enough to completely neutralise the analyte solution
End point
An approximation of the equivalence point
Pipette
Wash with distilled water, then the solution going in it.
Burette
The unkown solution is placed here(analyte) can be swapped. Washed with distilled water, then washed with the solution going in it.
Conical flask
A known substance is placed here(titrant) can be swapped. Washed with distilled water
Secondary Standard
A solution that has been prepared in the laboratory and has been titrated/standardised against a primary solution
How to prepare a Primary standard
- Desiccated/dry standard is weighed accurately in a beaker(moles are known)
- It is mixed with distilled h20 until dissolved
- this is then dropped to a clean & dry volumetric flask and the beaker is rinsed with distilled water into the volumetric flask
- the volumetric flask is topped up dropwise and stoppered, labelled with the concentration, solution and date.
Volumetric Flask
accurate measuring device to 4 sig. figs.
