Titration Flashcards
What type of reaction is it ?
Neutralisation
What is the first stage ?
Using a pity Pete we transfer 25cm3 of sodium hydroxide solution into a conical flask
Why do we transfer it into a conical flask ?
Reduces chance of spillage
What is the second stage ?
Add five drops of indicator such as methyl orange to the alkali in the conical flask
What is the third stage ?
Place conical flakes on a white tile so we can see the colour change more visibly
What is the fourth stage ?
Fill a burette with sulfuric acid
What is the fifth stage ?
Add acid to the alkali until solution is neutral
We need to be careful not to add too much
One we see a colour change we add drop by drop until neutral
It is important to swirl the solution to make sure the acid and alkali mix
What is the sixth stage ?
Read the volume of acid added from the burette
What do have to do when reading the burette ?
The miniscuss of the liquid naturally curves so we have to read from the bottom of this curve
What do you do once everything is done ?
Repeat 3 times
Take values each time
Create a mean value of acid added
