Titration Flashcards
1
Q
What are tritrations used for?
A
- To find out concentrations
2
Q
Describe the practical for finding titrations
A
- Measure out a set volume of the alkali using a pipette into a flask
- Fill burette with a standard solution of acid
- Use burette to add acid to the alkali bit by bit and swirl the flask regularly
- When all the alkali has been neutralised the indicator changes colours
- Phenolphthalein is pink in alkalis but colourless in acids
- methyl orange is yellow in alkalis but red in acid
- Record the volume of acid use to neutralize the alkali
- Repeat this process making sure you get very similar results
3
Q
How to calculate the concentration using the titration results
A
- Concentration = number of moles d
4
Q
Define solute
A
- The substance that dissolves
5
Q
Define solvent
A
- The liquid that does the dissolving
