Tissues Flashcards
What are the 4 types of tissue?
Epithelial, Connective, Muscle, Nervous
What tissue covers, lines, protects the body?
Epithelial
Difference b/w simple and stratified epithelium?
Simple = 1 cell layer ; Stratified = many layers
Where is squamous epithelium found?
Blood vessels, body cavities, organs, air sacs
Where is stratified squamous epithelium found?
Outer layer of skin, inside cheeks, areas of friction/abrasion
What happens in stratified squamous epithelium?
Keratinization (waterproofing of the skin)
Where is simple cuboidal tissue found?
Kidneys
Where is simple columnar epithelium found?
Digestive tract
What can simple columnar epithelium contain that helps “trap”/”move” particles
Cilia and goblet cells
What is unique about pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium?
Looks like it has multiple layers, only has one
Where is pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium found?
Respiratory tract/passageways
What type of gland secretes chemical messages into the bloodstream?
Endocrine
What type of gland secretes its product onto the body/organ surface? Example?
Exocrine; sweat, oil
What are the strong white fibers called?
Collagen
What are the yellow stretchy fibers called?
Elastic
What cells are collagen and elastic fibers produced in?
Fibroblasts
What is the proper name for fat cells?
Lipids
What type of tissue is found in basement membrane of tissues, mucous membranes, and around blood vessels?
Loose Areolar Connective Tissue
What type of tissue found composing lymph nodes, lymph tissue, and the spleen?
Reticular Connective Tissue
What connects muscle to bone?
Tendons
What connects bone to bone?
Ligaments
What connects muscle to muscle?
Aponeuroses
What type of tissue are tendons/ligaments?
Fibrous Connective Tissue
What type of tissue composes vocal cords and lung tissue
Elastic Connective Tissue
What type of tissue is an energy source and is found protecting organs?
Adipose Connective Tissue
Where is chondrocytes found?
In matrix space called lacunae in cartilage
What is the most common type of cartilage
Hyaline Cartilage
Where is hyaline cartilage found?
Ends of long bones, nose, respiratory structures, embryonic skeletons
What type of cartilage is found b/w disks of the vertebrae?
Fibrocartilage
What type of cartilage is found in the outer ear?
Elastic Cartilage
