What is a tissue?
A group of cells that work together based on size, shape, and function
What does connective tissue do?
It connects organs and tissue; provides support
What is adipose tissue?
A type of connective tissue that stores fat cells
What is cartilage?
Cartilage is a firm and flexible connective tissue that supports embryo and adult skeletons
What are tendons?
Tendons are connective tissue that attach skeletal muscle to bone
What are ligaments?
Ligaments are flexible connective tissue that connect bones together at the joint
What is nervous tissue?
Nervous tissue reacts to stimulation and conducts an impulse; control and communication
What does muscle tissue do?
It contracts and moves a body part; movement
What are cardiac muscles?
Cardiac muscles are striated and involuntary and contracts the heart
What are skeletal muscles?
Skeletal muscles are striated and voluntary and attached to the skeleton
What are smooth muscles?
Smooth muscles are nonstriated and involuntary and provide movement in various body systems
What does epithelial muscle do?
It protects the body by covering internal and external surfaces
What is skin?
Skin is a epithelial tissue that covers the outside of the body
What is a membrane?
A membrane is two thin layers of epithelial tissue that join together and may secrete a fluid
