Tissues Flashcards
What are the Characteristics of Epithelial tissue?
Cellularity, polarity, attachment, avascularity, regeneration, layers
Simple Epithelium has how many layers?
One layer of cells
How many layers does Stratified Epithelium have?
Several layers of cells
What is Squamous Epithelial
Thin flat cells
Is cuboid epithelial height equal to the width?
Yes
What does transitional epithelial do?
Changes shape
Columnar epithelial; height compared to width?
Height is 3-4 times the width
Pseudostratified columnar epithelium
What are the three components of all Connective tissue
- Special Cells
- Extracellular protein
- Ground substance
What is a matrix
Collective term for extracellular component of any connective tissue made of protein fibres and ground substance
Connective tissue proper is what two things?
Loose and dense
What are the two characteristics of fluid connective tissue?
Blood and lymph
What are the two characteristics of supporting connective tissue?
Cartilage and bone
What are collagen fibres made of?
3 sub units coiled around each other, they are very long fibres
What are Reticular fibers?
A single unit of collagen protein
What to Elastic fibres contain?
Elastin
What fraction of our bodies protein is made of collagen?
> 1/3
Loose connective tissue forms what?
Fascia and sheaths
What does dense connective tissue form?
Tendons and ligaments
Blood is a fluid CT containing a matrix…?
Called plasma and various types of cells, or formed elements
What is lymph formed as?
Interstitial fluid is collected into lymphatic vessels to be brought back to the blood vessels
What are the three types of cartilage?
Hyaline - abundant, avascular, and homogenous
Elastic - abundant in matrix, flexibility, and strength
Fibrocartilage - tension and compression, adapted, and reinforced
