Tissues Flashcards
The study of body tissues
Histology
4 basic types of tissues
Epithelium
Connective
Muscular
Nervous
Covers body surfaces lines hollow organs and cavities and forms glands
Epithelial tissue
Connect supports and protects body organs while distributing blood vessel to the other tissues
Connective tissues
Contracts to make body parts move and generates heat
Muscular tissue
Carries information from one part of the body to another through nerve impulses
Nervous tissue
Is a single layer of flat cells that resembles a tiled floor when viewed from apical surface centrally located nucleus that is flattened and oval or sphericals in shape
This type of epithelium typically lines blood vessels and body cavities and regulates the passages of substance into underlying tissue
Simple squamous
This type of epithelium is typically found in glandular (secreting) tissue and kidney tubules
Simple cuboidal
