Tissues Flashcards

1
Q

What is epithelial

A

Epithelial tissue is what lines the outer surface of the body and then it lines all the tubes and vessels inside the body

Q

What are the three main Epithelial Cell Shapes and define all three

A

Squamous- Flattened and similar to an egg
Cuboidal- About the same size on all sides, the nucleus is usually centrally located
Columnar- Taller than they are wide and nucleus is oval and located in the basal region of the cell

Q

Name The three layers of an Epithelial Cell layer and define them

A

Simple epithilum- A single layer of cells with all cells having an apical surface and attached to the basement membrane

Stratified epithelium- 2 or more layers of cells, and not all cells have an apical surface nor do all cells attach to the basement

Pseudostratified epithilium- Single layer but not all cells reach the apical surface and their nuclei makes it look like its a multilayered stratified epithilum

12
Q

What are the Categories for connective tissue proper and define them

A

Loose Connective: Has fewer protein fibres and more ground substances such as areolar, adipose and recticular

Dense Connective Tissue: Has more protein fibres and less ground substances such as dense regular, dense irregular and elastic

Q

What is dense regular connective tissue

A

It is a collagen fibre found in tendons and ligaments

17
Q

What is dense irregular tissue

A

Bundles of collagen fibres found in deep portion of the skin and capsules around organs such as the liver, kidney, and spleen

18
Q

What is Elastic Connective Tissue

A

Provides ability to strect and recoil found in the Aorta and diaphram
