Tissues Flashcards
What is epithelial
Epithelial tissue is what lines the outer surface of the body and then it lines all the tubes and vessels inside the body
Tissue Type Table
Diagram of Epithilium tissue
What are the three main Epithelial Cell Shapes and define all three
Squamous- Flattened and similar to an egg
Cuboidal- About the same size on all sides, the nucleus is usually centrally located
Columnar- Taller than they are wide and nucleus is oval and located in the basal region of the cell
Name The three layers of an Epithelial Cell layer and define them
Simple epithilum- A single layer of cells with all cells having an apical surface and attached to the basement membrane
Stratified epithelium- 2 or more layers of cells, and not all cells have an apical surface nor do all cells attach to the basement
Pseudostratified epithilium- Single layer but not all cells reach the apical surface and their nuclei makes it look like its a multilayered stratified epithilum
Function of the Glands
To produce Mucin, hormones, enzymes and waste product
What is Connective Tissue
Most diverse, abudent and widely distrubuted tissue compared to all the other tissue types
What are the components of Connective Tissue
Cells
Protein Fibre
Ground Substances
What is the Extracellular Matric comprise of in the Connective Tissue
Protein Fibres and ground substances

What are the classification of Connective tissue
Connective tissue proper
Supporting connective tissue
Fluid connective tissue
What are the Categories for connective tissue proper and define them
Loose Connective: Has fewer protein fibres and more ground substances such as areolar, adipose and recticular
Dense Connective Tissue: Has more protein fibres and less ground substances such as dense regular, dense irregular and elastic
What is Areolar Connective Tissue
Contains Fibroblast, collagen and elastic fibrres; can be distorted without damage
What is Adipose tissue
Known as fat and it is comprised of adipocytes
What is Reticular Tissue
Contains reticular fibres, fibroblasts and leukocytes and found in spleem, lymph nodes and bone marrow
