Tissues (#1) Flashcards
Tissues
Groups of similar cells that come together to perform a specific function
What are the 4 primary tissues types?
Nervous, muscle, epithelial, connective
Histology
The study of tissues
Carmine
A red dye derived from the scales of a crushed up cochineal insects
What are the 3 types of muscles?
Skeletal, cardiac, smooth
Nervous tissue
Control & communication
Muscle tissue
Controls movement
Epithelial tissue
Cover and protect the body
What are the 2 big jobs of the nervous system?
Sensing stimuli and sensing electrical impulses
Skeletal muscle tissue
Attaches itself to the bones giving support
Cardiac muscle tissues
Works involuntary, specifically for the heart
One nucleus & branching
Smooth muscle tissues
Lines the walls of most of your blood vessels and hollow organs
Short tapered cells, no striations, & involuntary
Dendrite
Part of the neuron that receives signals from other cells
Soma
Part of the neuron that contains the cells nucleus, DNA, mitochondria, and most of the other organelles
