Sublingual - under the tongue
IVPB
Intravenous piggyback - 2 lines are hung and connect into some type of IV access.
Subs
Medicated is injected in the fat/hypodermis
TD
Transdermal - medicated patch, or ointment is applied to the skin.
IO
Intraosseus - deviced placed into the marrow of the bone to give medications, fluid, which enters into the vascular systems. Only used in emergency situations when you can’t obtain IV access.
ETT
Endotracheal tube - used during emergency situations when access can’t be obtained, medications are absorbed through the aveoli and crosses over into the bloodstream.
PEG
Percutaneous endoscopic gastronomy - this is a tube that is surgically insterted through the skin and into the stomach.
