Tissue Types Flashcards
How are Epithelial tissues classified?
- ) number of cell layers
2. ) cell shape
What is Epithelial Tissue? What are it’s functions?
Two functions: 1.) provides covering such as skin tissue.
- ) produce secretion such as glandular tissue
- commonly exists in sheets
- no own blood supply
- dependent on nearby capillaries for food and oxygen
- these tissues can regenerate if well nourished
What is the difference between simple and stratified epithelial tissues?
-vary by # of cell layers
Simple = 1 layer
Stratified = more than 1 later
Where are simple epithelial tissues found?
Simple tissues are found in body structure where absorption, secretion, and filtration occur:
What do stratified epithelial tissues used for?
Serve as protection.
What are the shapes of epithelial tissues?
Squamous, cuboidal, and columnar.
How many tissue types are there? What are they?
Four types: epithelial tissues, connective tissues, muscle tissues, and nervous tissues.
What are connective tissues? Where are they found? Function?
Found thru body. Serve to connect diff body structures. Commonly has own blood supply.
Do all connective tissues have their own blood supply?
No. Ex is ligaments do not.
What are the types of connective tissue?”
Bone, cartilage, adipose (fat), and blood vessel.
What are muscle tissues?
Dedicated to movement. 3 types of muscle tissue: skeletal, cardiac, and smooth.
Where is the cardiac muscle tissue found?
Only in the heart. It is involuntary: meaning brain has no control.
What does the skeletal muscle do?
Supports voluntary movements-connected to bones in skeletal system.
Who controls voluntary movements?
Consciously controlled by the brain.
What does the smooth muscle do?
Under involuntary control. Found in walls of hollow organs, ex intestines, bladder, and uterus.
